HOW DOES A WRINKLE FORM

If there are two sheets of materials one on top of another, and the two sheets have different abilities to shorten (contract) then a wrinkle results in one or the other sheets. Thus a wrinkle is formed when a muscle - which is made to repeatedly shorten, contracts and shortens itself beneath the skin. The skin shortens but not as well as the muscle. The result is a wrinkle or better a buckling of the skin. After repeated buckling, the buckle becomes deeper and the furrow at the depth of the buckle becomes sharper and deeper. After repeated buckling, the elastic fibers of the skin break and the skin no longer lengthens. This is somewhat like bending a piece of metal over and over until it fractures. Thus the wrinkle begins to form. Over time the depth of the wrinkle increases. This is especially true when the elastic fibers of the skin are damage by sun. Elastic fibers may be programmed to break because of your genetic predisposition. Elastic fibers can be broken by sun, etc. Note a baby has wrinkles when it smiles. The wrinkles promptly go away when the baby stops smiling. The baby's skin is full of unfractured elastin fibers. The baby's skin is plump with water which also helps fill the skin. Agents such as sun, weather, chemicals, x-rays, and so forth, can contribute to fracturing of the fibers and changing the metabolism of the skin.

Elastin is a material in the skin that allows the skin to wrinkle and unwrinkle. Because of the sun, weathering, aging and so forth, elastin breaks down. It is no longer elastic. It becomes brittle and breaks. This along with decreased water content and slowed metabolism, permanent wrinkles result. How do you retain baby skin that can contract and relax, hold water, and have a good metabolism. without permanent wrinkling ? You can't. But you can try.

The following are ways that the skin can be helped in returning to a younger stage.

Skin care products

Skin care products are the most commonly used methods for improvement of the skin fabric. They add thickness and elasticity into the skin. Products allow the skin to retain moisture. They allow the skin to repair damaged elastin fibers and they change the metabolism of the skin allowing it to rid itself of the discolorations associated with aging. Check our product center for Glycolic acid products. Kejolic acid products, Retinoids - Retin A etc - well known for their effect - but considered harsh by many.

Plant hormones - Kinerase - one of the newer effective, and non irritating agents. It has proven very effective without significant side effects.

OTHER METHODS OF SKIN REJUVENATION

Mechanical methods as Microdermabrasion
Chemical methods as Chemical peels of various types
Laser methods as ablation
and
Pulsed Light Methods.
