ACNE

Acne is usually associated with pores that become plugged. Pores are the opening of tubes or pipes (if you will) that drain to the skin from the oil glands. If the oils are thick and do not drain, bacteria then populate the glands and the tubes. They begin to grow in the backed up tubes and glands. In some cases, even without bacteria, the oils alone can cause a reaction.

When bacteria grow in the oil, infective types of acne result. Infective forms of acne are called pustular acne, cystic acne, and so on. Inflamitory acne may just be inflamation (irritation) from the oils, plus or minus the bacteria.

The basic concept of acne therapy is to open the pores and let the oils and bacteria drain out. This can 'clear' the acne. In severe cases, antibiotics and or Acutane may be needed.

Microdermabrasion has been helpful in treating acne.
