POWER ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION

In the attempt to make fat removal more effective, methods and instruments have evolved that have increase our abilities to remove fat with less bleeding and with a better chance of a pleasing contour. The instrumentation has also increased the amount of fat that can be removed and the smoothness of the skin after removal.

One of the most important aspects of liposuction surgery is to have skin that is smoother, smoother than it was before the operation. This is not possible in all cases. But this is our goal.

The most recent development is power assisted liposuction. In my experience it can allows for the more complete removal of fat and a better chance for a tighter, more pleasing skin contour. I use this instrument whenever possible.

Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) liposuction involves the use of a rapidly vibrating suction tube or canula. The cannula used is quite similar to the ones that we use during traditional liposuction. However the cannula is hooked to a vibrating machine. The machine causes the head of the cannula to move back and forth approximately one-eighth to one-quarter of an inch. It moves at speeds of three to seven thousand times a minuteor more. This differs from ultra-sonic liposuction in that ultra-sonic cannulas vibrate at 12 million times a second and the tip of the cannula moves less than a thousandth of an inch.

The Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) instrament / machine in my experience has been one of the more beneficial instruments that I have used. There are less risks in using Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) machine than when using internal ultra-sonic equipment. There certainly is a place for both techniques. The Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL) technique is one that will be use in most every case.

One of the benefits that I have noticed is the fact that there is less bleeding. There is also less tingling and discomfort than when the internal ultra-sonic machine is use. The question arises, is there a place for internal ultra-sonic liposuction. Yes. It has its best use in very tough tissues such as the hip area and also in areas of fairly loose, thin skin - such as the medial thigh area. Ultra-sonic liposuction can tighten the skin and we have seen this. Skin tightening does occur after Power Assisted Liposuction (PAL).

Since skin types differ, skin thickness and response to surgery differ, your particular situation needs evaluation . You might consider our offer of a complimentary consult if you visit our consult page and bring a copy of that web page to the office.
